God's Goodnight Stories:

From Creation to Forever
Bill McLeod

What If the Last Thing on Their Mind Tonight Is How Much God Loves Them?

Children carry more into bed with them than we sometimes realize. Something that happened at school. Something frightening they saw on a screen. Something they overheard and didn't understand. Sometimes, when the lights go out and everything gets quiet, those are the things that get louder.

God's Goodnight Stories: From Creation to Forever was written to give children something better to think about as they fall asleep.

Through 26 beautifully illustrated bedtime stories, children journey through the Bible from "Let there be light" to God's promise of eternity with Him. Each story is told in simple, gentle language that helps children understand not only what happened in the Bible, but what it tells them about the God who created them.

Read one together at bedtime. Talk about it. Say a prayer. Then turn out the light knowing you've given your child something worth carrying into their dreams:

God made you. God knows you. God loves you. And you can trust Him.

Bill McLeod is a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and storyteller with a heart for helping children understand one simple but life-changing truth: God knows them, loves them, and wants them to know Him.

In Bill’s words: “One night, as I was tucking my 9-year-old granddaughter, Maddy, in for the night, I noticed she was troubled about something. At first, she didn’t want to talk about it, but eventually she opened up and shared that a bully at school had pushed her friend down. I could see that the memory of what she had witnessed was frightening to her. We talked about it and prayed together until Maddy was able to settle in for the night with a smile and the assurance that everything was going to be okay.

As I turned out the light and left her room, I wondered how many children go to bed every night with the last thing on their mind being something frightening: a bully at school, something scary they saw on a screen, or some terrible news they don't know how to respond to.

It was that time with Maddy that inspired me to create something a child could read at bedtime so that the last thing on their mind as they doze off to sleep is how much God loves them.”

That night with Maddy eventually became God’s Goodnight Stories: From Creation to Forever.

For nearly two decades, Bill and his wife, Sue, have devoted much of their lives to helping children in their San Diego County community through Got Your Back San Diego, the nonprofit organization they founded to provide weekend food assistance to kids who might otherwise go without. That experience has given Bill a unique window into some of the challenges children face and a deep conviction that kids need more than their physical needs met. They need hope, security, encouragement, and the assurance that they are deeply loved.

God’s Goodnight Stories is a collection of 26 gentle, engaging bedtime stories based on 26 beautifully illustrated Bible stories, written especially for children and the adults who love them. Beginning with Creation and continuing through God’s great story of love and redemption, each story is meant to help make the Bible understandable, personal, and reassuring to a young heart.

Bill doesn't write as a theologian or Bible scholar. He writes as a father in the Christian faith who has spent a lifetime learning about God's grace. And he believes that some of life's most important conversations happen when a child is tucked into bed, and someone who loves them takes a few minutes to talk to them about God.

“My hope for every child who hears these stories is that when the lights go out, and the room becomes quiet, they fall asleep knowing they are loved by their family, and deeply and completely loved by God.”
