Amazon Best-Selling Author, Russ Scalzo

Welcome to Out of the Stack

Books, books, books - everywhere you look, piles and piles of books. As of the first quarter 2020, Amazon has over three million eBooks for sale! If you're an author like me, I am sure you have Googled dozens of publishers and book promotion/book marketing services since you started writing. For most of us (me included!), the high price along with outdated publishing methods leaves us with few options. So what are we supposed to do?

When I started in 2002, like many fledgling writers, I attempted to entice a literary agency (any agency) to represent me. No dice. After a year of that, desperate to get my book published, I paid a vanity press company $1,900 to publish my book. They didn’t edit it, format it, or design my cover, but they did take a big piece of my royalties. They merely threw it out there to die a painful death. Needless to say, I didn’t sell any books to speak of, other than to friends and an occasional relative. My quarterly royalty checks averaged $3.47. Ouch!

Then came Amazon! I discovered CreateSpace in 2013 (now KDP - Kindle Direct Publishing), and that was a game-changer. The results were amazing! Currently, my first series On the Edge of Time (2 books) has 201 reviews with a rating of 4.8. My second series released from 2015-19, Hidden Thrones (5 books), has 249 reviews with a rating of 4.6.

Over the last 17 years, I have learned much about publishing, marketing books, and book shepherding. Each of my series has enjoyed the honor of being #1 in the Christian Fiction/Fantasy category and, for the most part, I have been successful in maintaining their positions among Amazon’s Best Sellers.

As authors we work hard writing and re-writing, doing out best to make our books all that they can be, then we pay upwards of $6,500 for someone to edit, format it, design a cover, and publish it only to watch it die on the vine. Why stop halfway through the process? It is time to climb to the top of the mountain and blow the trumpet! You have done your job, now let us do ours. I know from experience delay only leads to disappointment.

As an independent hybrid publisher, our authors pay nothing for the production of their eBook and paperback and receive a 50% royalty while retaining full content rights. In return, our authors partner with us by investing $199 a month in the first year and $99.00 a month in the second year for the sole purpose of promoting their book. A true partnership benefits both parties. When you win we win.

By partnering with the author, we can provide the professional services he or she needs while sharing the risk. This is the only cost to the author. There are no hidden charges or upsell fees.

Our partnership with Seven Horns Publishing, and our active sales team, ensures that the books we publish are available to over 30,000 wholesalers, retailers, and booksellers, including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Baker & Taylor, Ingram-Spring Arbor.
